This course is a foundation course for any manager at any level who aims to become an effective leader. Authentic leadership is based on self- leadership that is critical before knowing how to lead teams and leading the business. This is the case in all leadership programs such as New Managers Leadership Program (NMLP), Management Development Program (MDP) and Senior Management Development Program (SMDP). Upon successful completion of this course, the participant will have understood how to lead themselves. This course is a prerequisite for modules on centered and ethical leadership, team leadership, managing upwards and business acumen.

The Enron Scandal, Leyman Brothers and other major 20th and 21st century financial scandals have reignited the debate on what really is the role of leadership in Organizations and Society as a whole. The Political, Social and Economic spaces have not been spared either of the scandals that have challenged long held traditions of what leadership is. Leadership has for a long time been taught as a technical skill placing emphasis on what to do and not who to be. Graduands of top Ivy League Universities have been at the helm of initiating and driving some of the scandals mentioned earlier that have had enormous negative impact on communities and nations.

This is the case in all leadership programs such as HE Management Development Program (MDP) and Senior Management Development Program (SMDP). Upon successful completion of this course, the participant will have understood how to lead themselves by developing their EQ which will enable them manage teams and lead with business acumen.
